Synopsis2

A bad boy wrapped in a sexy, muscled, grown-up package might be worth a little risk…

Molly Webster has always followed the rules. After an ugly scandal tore apart her childhood and made her the focus of the media’s harsh spotlight, she vowed to live an ordinary life. No fame. No impropriety. No pain. Then she meets Zachary Fox, a tattooed bad boy rocker with a voice like whiskey and sin, and a touch that could become an addiction.

A one-night stand with the hottest rock star on the planet, that’s all it was meant to be…

Fox promises scorching heat and dangerous pleasure, coaxing Molly to extend their one-night stand into a one-month fling. After that, he’ll be gone forever, his life never again intersecting with her own. Sex and sin and sensual indulgence, all with an expiration date. No ties, no regrets. Too late, Molly realizes it isn’t only her body that’s become addicted to Fox, but her heart…

Review

I was given a complimentary copy of Rock Addiction in exchange for an honest review.

Rock Addiction is my very first Nalini Singh book. Many of my book friends have tried to get me to read her books for a few years now. I’m just not a shifter/urban fantasy romance fan. However, I know that her writing is incredible from all the raves from my friends. So when I found out she was writing a rock star romance, I jumped all over the opportunity to read an early copy! Rock Addiction is packed full of all my favorite things I love about this genre: an engaging plot with all the rock star lifestyle angst, well written characters, and really hot sex!

The book begins with an introduction to mousy librarian Molly Webster. She is at a party for the ultra popular band Schoolboy Choir and finds herself drawn to the lead singer Zachary Fox. She know this hot tattooed rock god is completely out of her league, but that doesn’t keep her from lusting after him. After leaving the party with only her fantasies of Zachary, Molly’s world is changed forever when this man approaches her in the parking garage. Little does she know that Zachary noticed Molly during the party and couldn’t take his eyes off her.

Rock Addiction isn’t terribly original. Many of the scenes have been done in some of my favorite rock star reads. But that’s not to say Nalini doesn’t do them justice. One of the reasons I love the rock star romance genre is for the angst and drama of the rock lifestyle. The scenes she writes involving the groupies, paparazzi, and jealousy that comes with loving a man who is coveted all over the world is top notch. I found myself feeling all of Molly’s emotions when she had to deal with the nasty side effects of Zachary’s job. And call me a shameless whore, but I loved all the sex scenes in this book. Why else would I read this genre if not to live out my fantasies with a unobtainable hot rock star through a nerdy librarian who loves to read? That could totally be me! Well, minus the librarian job. I enjoyed the banter between the characters and the secondary story lines. Nalini effectively sets up plots for future books, which I really like.

I had a few issues with the book. I didn’t feel there was enough back story with Molly. You only get the scandalous part of Molly’s past and not much about her relationship with Thea. I found the idea that Molly is a virgin to be a little implausible. Typically this sort of thing doesn’t bother me and I can suspend disbelief a bit. But because Molly’s character seem much more mature, I had a hard time doing that this time.

Despite the missteps, I enjoyed Rock Addiction. I like that Nalini Singh stepped out of her shifter/fantasy realm to give contemporary romance a try. Her characters are engaging, the plot is fun, and the romance is super sexy. I cannot wait for the follow up novella with Thea and David’s character. I give Rock Addiction four out of five stars!
